As more applications emerge to run on the Linux desktop, the application barrier to Linux adoption will decline. In turn, desktop sales will accelerate in enterprise scenarios, rationalizing IT investments in the common infrastructure of Java across the desktop, application and server domains. It's a virtuous circle that borrows heavily from the Microsoft playbook. That's why developers may take Sun's strategy very seriously this time.

virtuous circle, or virtuous cyle 是 Vicious cycle 的反义词。

On a side note, this paragraph has some logical flaw. Author assumed applications that can be moved to linux will be moved to linux, that's not true. I have a option to choose doesn't necessarily means I'll take it, it's just an option. So author mistakenly speculate that (linux) desktop sales will accelerate.

Many companies have applications run on unix, but ironically most of developers use Microsoft window to write the code, and that is not going to change anytime soon, because people are just used to MS window. So I believe there'll be no dramatic surge of linux/java desktop sale as author hoped for.

IT news are all about hype.
