JMX is an optional package for J2SE that provides a standard way to manage applications. It can also be used to wrap legacy systems and provide a standard interface to the outside world, enabling the development of web services. N年前，用N老的技术，开发的往往很破的系统(但也有出奇的健壮)
出于成本等的考虑，短期内不打算抛弃或重写。 如很多银行的COBOL系统

老掉牙的东西。Generally means anything that's old, punch card, mainframe applications, DOS applications, etc. Anything that's not in the IT news.

It's relatively old system. Say, if you are using java, then cobol, fortran, c are old system. We don't say "old system" for several reasons, it could imply we are going to get rid of it, or it could be politically correct since there are still folks working on that, or someone wants to use longer words to show his literacy.
