Apache Commons Project

The Apache Commons Project was created in September, 2002 as a central
location in the ASF where common components and libraries could be built.
These components could be delivered as standalone components, or for
incorporation into other Apache projects. Unfortunately, the project never
gained critical mass, so it was deemed best to close it (in August, 2004).
