Since 1994, The Standish Group has surveyed thousands of different software development projects in various industries to study project success and process. A summary of their results are published in "CHAOS: A Recipe for Success". The results show that project success has increased from 16% in 1994 to 26% in 1998. Despite this increase in success rate, this still indicates that 74% of projects failed to be within user expectations, budget and timeline.
