In Client:
application ->
ORB orb = ORB.init(property, null);
NamingContextExt nc = NamingContextExtHelper
.narrow(orb.resolve_initial_references("NameService"));
org.omg.CORBA.Object obj = nc.resolve(nc.to_name("XXX"));
XXX xxxi = XXXHelper.narrow(obj);

applet ->
ORB orb = ORB.init(applet, null);
....

org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialHost and org.omg.CORBA.ORBInitialPort entries should be in property or applet initial arguments.

For thrird pary plug-in, should have org.omg.CORBA.ORBClass and org.omg.CORBA.ORBSingletonClass entries.

I have not done any work with JDK ORB or Visibroker. The previous corba project I did was using JacORB (Free). It worked very well. The properties are:
org.omg.CORBA.ORBClass=org.jacorb.orb.ORB
org.omg.CORBA.ORBSingletonClass=org.jacorb.orb.ORBSingleton
