there may be a workaround. [Notice: i haven't tested myself]

1. EXP lower version dump from 8.1.7
- you should find some CATEXP??.sql from <oracle home>/rdbms/admin
(?? stand for oracle version number. i.e. CATEXP7.sql for EXP dump for oracle7). run the sql in order to create the export catalog view in 8.1.7. The view enable you EXP an older version dump under 8.1.7 environment.

2. IMP the dump in 8.1.6

Since 8.1.6 is able to IMP older version dump, i believe this workaround should work. However, beaware that some datatype might be converted twice during the EXP and IMP process.

可以的，817导出的dmp必须通过817版本的imp，连接到816上导入，实践证明一点问题都没有，

一般情况是可以的，具体操作是通过Oracle8.1.7的客户端来实现的

应该说可能会遇到一些问题的，反正我是没有导成功过，从低版本的客户端导出，然后从低版本的客户端导入到高版本的数据库服务器是比较推荐的做法！
如果你是用oracle9i的客户端导出的dmp文件，几乎不可能在低版本中导入！
