I think as a beginner. the best enviroment for play java is:
Unix/Linux + J2SDK + VIM/emacs

in this case...you will learn lot of stuffs(not only java) that u can't find in IDE enviroment....u will spend more time than using IDE, but trust me....u will learn much more...

dick_lai 2005-06-20 : jbuilder比较好用.虽然比较笨重.机子配置要好一点的,不然运行会象蜗牛一样,
打消自己对编程的积极性!~!~!!

Eclipse我觉得这个比较好用 JCreator操作比较简单 但是他的功能就没有日食那么强大了。

这个IDE不错！插件也多，可用于好几种语言的开发，也可开发自身的插件
，也可中文化，不用安装，jdk也不要，只需要jre，挺方便的！！

Eclipse是需要JDK的

为什么还要分初学者、新手呢，既然要搞java，以后做工程要用到jbuilder或eclipse，为什么不现在就用呢？起点高一些，进步快一些，为什么不好呢？

学习一门语言，不在乎用什么工具的哎！

还是多把精力放在语言本身比较好
